BBQ‘s are being conducted at Bunnings on the 1st
Wednesday of the month and provide a great opportunity to show Lions at work
in the community. The feed back is always very positive and of course the
sausages are very delicious.
Members of Edwardstown provide the Devonshire Teas on the
3rd Saturday of each month at the Glandore Community Centre,
Craft & Produce Market. Along with the scones, the menu now includes carrot
cake and soups, all made homemade. We have built a good rapport with
stallholders and regular customers join us each month for “the best scones
in Adelaide”.
The “Spring Racing Cabaret” will be held on Saturday 30th
October. 7.30pm at the Colonel Light Gardens RSL Hall. Music will be by the
band “Bits’n’Pieces” lead by our own Lion Mick. Some more adventurous of us
will dress in the “Spring Horse Racing” Theme, hopefully not as a horse.
The Christmas Stocking Raffle is underway. Lions Kevin &
Maurie have the tickets printed and in the next few weeks will scour the
shops for the goods & toys for the Stocking. Local schools, kindergartens
and community groups are able to receive much needed funds through the sale
of the tickets and then receiving a donation from Edwardstown Club.
5 local schools have again been asked to nominate a
student/s to receive a David Martin Memorial Leadership Encouragement Award.
To give examples of the allocation of funds raised, in
2009 we sponsored the purchase of a specially designed wheelchair for use by
disabled students attending the Phlato Disability Unit of Hamilton College.
We also gave a donation to the Julian Burton Burns Research Fund, to several
other Research Foundations and supported the Lions Cord Blood and Childhood
Cancer Appeal.
In the 2010/11 Lions year along with our regular
recipient organisations, we are sponsoring child mobility walkers to two
disabled young brothers and a Lions Hearing Dog for a local resident. Food
hampers will be provided at Christmas time and donated goods and clothing
will be distributed to several charities.

A steady stream of
hungry shoppers kept our team busy
