A
most enjoyable evening was held at the Marion Hotel with 55
members and Guests attending to celebrate the 43rd
Charter Anniversary of the Club.
Her Worship the Mayor of the City of Marion Mrs Felicity-ann
Lewis, an Honorary member of our Club attended and during the
evening held a Citizenship Ceremony at which a mother and son
were welcomed into the Australian community as new citizens.
This was the third year that this ceremony was held on the
Charter Anniversary Night.
The Charter was represented to President Doug by Past District
Governor Bob Radford, who congratulated the Club members on
their thousands of hours of community service given to the local
community over the years. PDG Bob a member of the Lions Club of
Noarlunga – Morphett Vale, which was the third Club formed by
Edwardstown, told those present that at the time of their
formation President Doug was President of Edwardstown and was
very involved in the formation with the Late Lion Ron Wallace.
President Doug in his response spoke about the formation, the
original Charter Night, at which he was Charter Night Chairman,
and some of the funny things that happened that night.
President Doug congratulated Mrs Sakar and her son Raj on
becoming Australian Citizens. Mrs Sakar is very active in
community works in the Marion area and told those present how
proud she was that all of her family were now Australian
Citizens. Raj, a year 12 student in the middle of his final
exams said that today was a very important milestone in his life
when he became an Australian Citizen.
Six prospective members were invited to attend the evening, all
said they enjoyed the celebrations and the hospitality extended
to them by our members.
During the meeting the members agreed to sponsor a sixteen year
old girl, from Cancar in Flores Eastern Indonesia for plastic
surgery by Dr Mark Moore a surgical team leader for OSSAA
(Overseas Specialist Services Association of Australia).
Margarite has an enormous facial tumour, which needs to be
removed; however, as the facilities for the operation are not
available in Cancar she has to be brought down to Adelaide.
